K.K. House – Animal Crossing: City Folk

This is a bait and switch, where following the intro, a K.K. Slider cover of Haunted House plays. The joke is simply that “House” is in the title. K.K. Slider covers make up a huge part of my Youtube channel, so not only was I excited to cover Haunted House in the style of a live K.K. performance, but I was finally able to contribute a K.K. cover for SiIvaGunner. Rather than modify an existing MIDI, I built this arrangement from the ground up, and tried to come up with a unique, but believable K.K. Slider sound for each instrument in Haunted House.

Castle Boss – New Super Mario Bros. Wii

This is the theme that plays when fighting a boss in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but the main lead has been replaced with Haunted House. Castle Boss is the alternate title of Haunted House, found within the NSF header information, which is the entire basis of this rip. This is the first Haunted House mashup on the channel, as opposed to being a melody swap, bait and switch, or sequenced arrangement.

Dark Castle (Neon Laboratory) – Kirby Planet Robobot

This is actually just Haunted House, pitch corrected to the Puzzle Room theme from Kirby Planet Robobot. Puzzle Room was a recurring meme on the channel, which was commonly used to troll the fans. Since Haunted House was my attempt at trolling the fans, I combined the two songs, and picked a different title from the Planet Robobot soundtrack with the word “Castle” in it. This may have been one of my more mean-spirited jokes, as fans were actually hoping for a rip of Dark Castle. I would later try to make it up to the fans by submitting a different rip.

Creepy Castle Boss – Donkey Kong 64

This is the theme that plays when you fight King Kut Out in Donkey Kong 64, but the melody and chords have been replaced with Haunted House. This is the first Haunted House rip to be more than just a bait-and-switch or midiswap. The joke is that “Castle Boss” is in the title, which is the alternate name for Haunted House.

This rip was featured on Volume 8-Bit Beast and the Starter Kit & Essentials.

Vampire Killer – Castlevania: Rondo of Blood

This is Megalovania from Undertale, but the melody has been replaced with Vampire Killer from the Castlevania series. I originally submitted this as a Megalovania rip, but as there were getting to be too many rips with that title, the team reformatted it as a Castlevania rip. They chose Rondo of Blood, although the brass and percussion instruments are from Dawn of Sorrow.

Onett (Extended Mix) – EarthBound

This is the theme that plays in the town of Onett, but the melody has been replaced with Outset Island from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Both themes are associated with the first area in their respective games. This was uploaded for the Undertale anniversary event, where the joke was that most of the rips were from the Mother series.

Fungi Forest (Barrel Course) – Donkey Kong 64

This is the theme that plays during the Barrel Cannon minigame for Fungi Forest, but the melody has been replaced with the overworld theme from Super Mario Bros. Both songs feature three part harmonies, and the first two notes line up perfectly with the DK64 song. It also just happened to work out that the stage is called Fungi Forest, and mushrooms play a huge part in the Super Mario series. Also, as was common with a lot of my early rips, when the song fades out, the Nutshack theme is present.

The Feerrott (Oggok Entrance) – EverQuest

This is an EverQuest-styled midi of All Star by Smash Mouth. There actually isn’t any song that plays in the Feerrott, just the sound of swamp life. The joke here is that Oggok is the city of the ogres, and All Star is commonly associated with the opening scene from Shrek. Other sound effects are present in this rip, such as the sound of an ogre fighting a froglok, and someone’s footsteps–which are pitch shifted to sound like the Nutshack theme.
